The NEA will host a nationwide conference of local affiliate teams to explore the professional needs of its members and the programs and supports that the affiliates can offer to meet its member needs. Affiliates in attendance will commit to implementing at least one professional quality support program in their local during the 2019-20 school year. Local Lighthouse Quality Teams should include the local president, a staff member, and a member leader dedicated to quality professional development (PD) and support. Affiliates will form their own quality professional support community in order to explore best practices in implementation.  Action plans should include ESP and early career educators and may be used to train other locals.

Rationale/Background

Great schools have educators supported by great PD. Our union and members are positioned to provide quality PD. Local Lighthouse Quality Teams should include leaders dedicated to quality PD, meeting the needs of ALL members along the entire career continuum.
