NEA will delay deciding on a preferred primary presidential candidate until members have had time to become educated through watching candidate debates and visiting the Strong Public Schools' website.

NEA will incorporate member voice in determining which candidate to support. If the NEA decides to use a scientific poll, it would be preferred that it be one that is regularly scheduled and budgeted, to minimize costs. The members' preferred candidate and the general means of how the candidate was determined (e.g. scientific poll, web site, questions, etc.) will be shared with membership through existing channels.

Rationale/Background

The NEA believes that "educators should have the opportunity to actively participate in the political process" and "every member has the right and obligation to participate fully in the Association.' Member voice must help determine which primary candidate to support.
