NEA will raise student trauma awareness among all members by supporting state affiliate efforts to offer trauma-sensitive professional learning opportunities that address:

1. The impact of toxic stress on brain development and student behavior and learning;

2. Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) research, screening, and awareness resources;

3. Trauma-sensitive teaching practices; and

4. The linkage of trauma to poverty, substance abuse, institutional racism and discrimination.

Trauma in our schools negatively impacts both student and educator success. NEA members report the issue is growing. While many states are individually addressing trauma, NEA can serve as a connector, helping states raise awareness and share and scale resources.
