94th Representative Assembly Invocation Speech: Laura Montgomery

NEA’s 94th Representative Assembly Invocation, read by Laura Montgomery, Arkansas Education Association member, retired Home School Consultant and former National Council for Education Support Professionals president:

Heavenly Father (Creator and Sustainer of heaven and earth),

We thank you for allowing us to see the end of another school year.  It is our prayer that all who came in contact with our students: from the bus drivers to the crossing guards; to the custodians to the cafeteria workers; to the hall monitors to the secretaries and bookkeepers; to the teacher’s aids; to the teachers; to the principal and administrators and finally back home to the parents….who were patient enough when needed and firm enough when needed as well.

It is our prayer that you will use any mistakes that were made along the way to help us grow.
We thank you for each positive moment of insight, of the excitement of learning, of accomplishment, of creativity, of laughter and a sense of community.

Now, we thank you for the opportunity to gather here for this annual NEA Representative Assembly.  We ask for your guidance, wisdom and support as we begin our meeting.  Help us to engage in meaningful discussion; allow us to grow closer as a group and nurture the bonds of community.  Fill us with your grace as we make decisions that might affect the students, staff and friends of our great school district.

Please continue to remind us that all who are here today, all that we accomplish, is for the pursuit of truth for the greater glory and the service of humanity.   As we prepare to leave for the summer, may we take with us the knowledge that You will keep us all in Your embrace so that we may be restored to continue in the ongoing discovery of Your love…….
